January 15, 2020 - Amarillo ISD is joining 1,025 school districts across Texas to celebrate School Board Recognition Month in January. 

“Our seven school board members are volunteers who shoulder critical responsibilities and often make tough choices for our district,” said Superintendent Doug Loomis.  Their hearts and minds are always focused on the future success of Amarillo ISD students, and celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say a big thank you for all they do.”

Doyle Corder, minister at Southwest Church of Christ, is the newest member of the AISD School Board.  Appointed last month to fill a Board vacancy, Corder will be installed and will officially take his seat at the January 21 Board meeting.  In addition to Corder, AISD Board members include:

Robin Malone (Board president) – Attorney and Director of Legal Studies at Amarillo College
David Nance (Board vice president) – Owner and President of Denman Building Products
Kimberly Anderson – Community Volunteer
Alonzo Everhart – Senior Director of Weapons Operations at CNS Pantex Plant
Dick Ford – Real Estate Developer
Kayla Mendez – Process Engineer at CNS Pantex Plant

The Amarillo ISD School Board is responsible for an annual total budget of more than $300 million, over 32,000 students, 5,000 staff members, and 55 campuses.  They are instrumental in setting the direction for the District and helping to create conditions for student success. 

“Our School Board is diverse in age, ethnicity, background and profession, but they have one thing in common – a sincere dedication to our mission of making sure all students graduate from high school prepared for life and success.  They’ve established three top priorities for the District this year – creating safe school environments, closing achievement gaps, and ensuring students are ready for life beyond high school, whether their future holds college, career or the military,” said Superintendent Loomis.

Trustees spend countless hours preparing for and attending Board meetings, committee meetings and trainings, visiting schools, participating in school activities and events, and advocating for our students and staff in the community.  We are grateful for their visionary leadership, Loomis added.
