New Chief of Police Sworn In

September 29, 2025 – The Amarillo ISD Police Department has a new Chief of Police at the helm. Ramey Rice was sworn in September 29.
Rice is a graduate of Midwestern State University. He has worked in school-based law enforcement since 2015 and has been an AISD PD officer since 2023. He says school-based law enforcement is an opportunity to impact the future by building trust with students beginning in elementary school, helping shape the way they view law enforcement and impact their behavior as they grow.
“We’re really fortunate we get to start in elementaries. I really think in the next five to ten years we’lll start to see a big shift in behavior in middle schools and high schools because these kids are going to have relationships with us and know police officers,” Chief Rice said.
Recently, Rice helped save the life of a spectator who suffered a medical emergency at Dick Bivins Stadium. He will receive a life-saving commendation for his efforts. Rice succeeds Paul Bourquin who moved on to pursue other opportunities.
