DEAC consists of campus-based and district teaching and non-teaching professional staff, parents, community members and business representatives. DEAC advises the Board in establishing and reviewing the District’s educational goals, objectives and major districtwide classroom instructional programs. The council serves exclusively in an advisory role. DEAC advises on school calendar, Plan for District Improvement, School Health Advisory Council, Staff Development plans, TEA waivers, Student Code of Conduct and AISD applied grants.

District-Level Committee
In compliance with Education Code 11.251, the District-wide Educational Advisory Council shall advise the Board or its designee in establishing and reviewing the District improvement plan [see BQ], as well as the District’s educational goals, objectives, and major District-wide classroom instructional programs identified by the Board or its designee. The committee shall serve exclusively in an advisory role.
Chairperson
The Superintendent shall be the Board’s designee. The Superintendent shall appoint a facilitator and may establish procedures for selection of a chairperson. The Superintendent shall meet with the committee periodically.
Meetings
The committee facilitator shall set its agenda and shall schedule at least two meetings per year; additional meetings may be called as needed. All committee meetings shall be held outside of the regular school day.
Community Input
The Superintendent or designee shall ensure that the District-level committee obtains broad-based community, parent, and staff input and provides information to those persons on a systematic basis.
Composition
The committee shall be composed of members who shall represent campus-based professional staff, District-level professional staff, parents, businesses, and the community.
Terms
Representatives shall serve staggered two-year terms and shall be limited to two consecutive terms on the committee.
Vacancy
If a vacancy occurs among the representatives on the committee during a term, or if a professional staff representative changes assignments in the District during a term, the position may be filled by committee appointment. The representative appointed shall serve for the remainder of that year. A permanent representative shall be elected at the next scheduled election. An appointed member shall be from the same representative group as the member leaving the committee.
Other Advisory Groups
The existence of the District-level committee shall not affect the authority of the Board or its designee to appoint or establish other advisory groups or task forces to assist it in matters pertaining to District instruction.
